What is 50/50 rule in appliances?
The 50/50 rule for appliances and appliance repair is a general guideline suggesting that an appliance should be replaced if the cost of repair exceeds 50% of the price of a new one. However, there are many exceptions depending on the appliance itself and the installation setup. For example, in a stackable configuration where the dryer is installed on top of the washer and enclosed inside a cabinet, a $500 dryer repair may still make sense—even if that amount exceeds 50% of the cost of a new dryer. In these situations, removing and reinstalling the entire stacked unit can be significantly more expensive than repairing the existing appliance.
How much do appliance repair technicians charge?
Our pricing depends on the specific repair needed. We do charge a $69 service call fee to come out and diagnose the issue, which includes a full professional evaluatiIf you approve the repair estimate in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, that $69 is fully applied toward the total repair cost. In other words, you’re only paying for the diagnostic if you decide not to move forward with the repair.
