What is the 50/50 rule in appliances?
The 50/50 rule for appliances and appliance repair is a general guideline suggesting that an appliance should be replaced if the cost of repair exceeds 50% of the price of a new one. However, there are many exceptions depending on the appliance itself and the installation setup. For example, in a stackable configuration where the dryer is installed on top of the washer and enclosed inside a cabinet, a $500 dryer repair may still make sense—even if that amount exceeds 50% of the cost of a new dryer. In these situations, removing and reinstalling the entire stacked unit can be significantly more expensive than repairing the existing appliance.

We do charge a $69 service call fee to come out and diagnose the issue, which includes a full professional evaluatiIf you approve the repair estimate in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, that $69 is fully applied toward the total repair cost. In other words, you’re only paying for the diagnostic if you decide not to move forward with the repair.
